RESA Spencer Gulf Supplier Workforce Scoping Study

RM Consultancy and Training were engaged by Resources and Engineering Skills Alliance (RESA) to facilitate responses and gather data for a Workforce Scoping Study to provide industry lead insight into the current and emerging workforce demands across industry in the Upper Spencer Gulf and Far North regions of South Australia.

With a focus on workforce the study was structured to identify:-

  • Occupations currently in demand
  • Skills shortages
  • Critical skills
  • Forecast demand (at the occupational level)
  • Emerging occupations
  • Other challenges of regional operations
  • Successful practices
  • Suggested programs and initiatives.

The outcomes of the study are expected to inform strategic responses to workforce priorities for regional supply chain operators here and now, and will inform future actions to meet the workforce demands for renewable energy, infrastructure and mineral resources projects.

Northern Water

Northern Water aims to provide anew, climate independent water source for the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eastern Eyre Peninsula to facilitate growth of industries crucial to achieving net-zero goals, including the emerging green energy and hydrogen industries.

The project will involve construction and operation of a 260ML/day seawater desalination plant in the Spencer Gulf connected to northern South Australia via approximately 600km of pipeline.

Northern Water present considerable opportunity for participation of the local and regional workforce and supply chain. Maximising his opportunity will require forward planning, engagement, training and coordination to connect the project requirements with local and regional capability and capacity at the right times.
Uni Hub Spencer Gulf engaged RM Consultancy and Training to collaborate on a ‘Workforce Skills and Training Program. There were several components to this planning phase:

  • Local Workforce Skills and Capacity Audit
  • Schools Project Pathway Program
  • Workforce Readiness Strategy
  • Workforce Action Plan

The approach and methodology for the project was developed in conjunction with the Norther Water team and included extensive engagement with local stakeholders and community.
